Scientific advisors include:
George Koob, Ph.D. is a Professor and Director of the
Division of Psychopharmacology in the Department of
Neuropharmacology at The Scripps Research Institute and Adjunct
Professor of Psychology and Psychiatry at University of
California, San Diego. An authority on addiction and stress, Dr.
Koob has published over 530 scientific papers. His current
research focuses on exploration of the neurobiological basis for
the neuroadaptation associated with drug dependence and stress.
He is the United States Editor-in-Chief of the journal
Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior, Director of the Alcohol
Research Center at The Scripps Research Institute, and
Consortium Coordinator for the multi-center Integrative
Neuroscience Initiative on Alcoholism funded by the National
Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.
Mark A. Geyer, Ph.D. is a Professor of Psychiatry and
Neurosciences at the University of California, San Diego and is
Director of the Basic Neuroscience Unit of the Veterans
Administration VISN 22 Mental Illness Research Education and
Clinical Center. Dr. Geyer’s research has focused on the
behavioral roles of brain monoamines, with a particular emphasis
on information processing abnormalities in schizophrenia and
related animal models. He has developed novel methods for
behavioral assessments of startle plasticity and locomotor
activity in genetically engineered mice, rats, and humans. With
grant support from NIMH, NIDA, NARSAD, and multiple
pharmaceutical companies, Dr. Geyer has published over 250
refereed papers and is a Managing Editor for Psychopharmacology
and an Executive Editor for Neuropharmacology.
